Fringer Nikon F to Fujifilm X Smar AF Adapter

Press Release

New feature of Fringer NF-FX adapter: LaCA correction

Fringer NF-FX (Nikon F mount to Fujifilm X mount) smart adapter will be released soon. Today we’d like to introduce an interesting feature of the adapter, i.e. LaCA correction.

LaCA, stands for lateral chromatic aberration, is resulting from a difference of image scale at different wavelength of red, green and blue light. LaCA causes colored fringes at high contrast edges of the image.

When we shoot RAW, LaCA can be easily removed by post processing. However, a key feature of Fujifilm cameras is their film simulation. In other words, we usually use the jpeg files directly out of the camera with few post processing. When using native X mount lenses, there is no problem since Fujifilm cameras will correct all the LaCA automatically. But when using adapted lenses, LaCA become a problem.

Fringer NF-FX has a built-in LaCA correction profile data base for all the lenses that have been tested and optimized (see this list). When shooting jpegs, the adapter will provide the LaCA correction profile of current lens to the camera automatically. The latter will use that profile to correct LaCA when generating jpeg pictures. Finally, user get a jpeg photo directly out of the camera which is LaCA free.

Please see the following example.

Fringer EX-FX (Pro) II Smart Autofocus Adapter Firmware 1.90 Released

Fringer has released firmware 1.80 for the Fringer EF-FX Pro II and Fringer EF-FX II smart autofocus adapters.

Fringer EX-FX (Pro) II – Version 1.90

  1. Added following lenses to the tested and optimized lens list:
    – EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM
    EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM + 1.4X
    EF 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM + 2X
    EF 70-210/3.5-4.5 USM
  2. Fixed PDAF issues for some lens of the following models: Lens didn’t get recognized by the adapter due to different lens firmware version.
    Sigma 24-105/4 ART
  3. Fixed a compatibility issue with X-T3 firmware 4.0: under certain circumstances, contrast AF may fail. This issue may also affect other cameras like X-T4 and X-S10.
  4. Fixed camera freeze issue on cameras equipped with X-Trans IV CMOS. When
    – In bright environment,
    – Adapting telephoto, ultra-fast or macro lenses,
    – Aperture is NOT wide open,
    – Subject is far away from current focus point and is so blur that phase detection doesn’t work,

Auto focus may fail. Sometimes, especially when using AF-ON button or touch screen to AF, it may freeze the camera. Even the power switch doesn’t work. This problem has been fixed. Affected cameras include X-T3 (firmware 2.0 or later), X-T30, X-T4, X-Pro3, X-S10.

As the bug fixes are important, upgrading is highly suggested.

Fringer Nikon F to Fujifilm X Smart Autofocus Adapter Prototype – Video Sample

Fringer is currently developing the Nikon F to Fujifilm X smart adapter.

The first engineering sample is now ready and you can see a working prototype in the video above.

It supports electronic aperture control for D, G and E lenses and auto focus for AF-S and AF-P lenses. Like Fringer EF-FX adapters, PDAF works very well on newer X-Trans cameras like Fujifilm X-T3, Fujifilm X-T4, etc.

In the demo video, you will see:

The product is still under development. Time to market is yet unknown.

Make sure to follow FujiRumors to stay up to date and get instant notification as soon as there is any update.

We remind you that also Steelsring announced a Nikon F to Fujifilm X smart adapter development back in May 2018, but they still list it as “coming soon” and no updates have been given in a long while. What we got from Steelsring, though, is the Nikon F to Fujifilm GFX smart adapter, which also has the first customer review at AmazonUS.
