Sigma CEO: “Our Mission is to Support as Many Systems as Possible, But Fujifilm X Mount….”

One of the burning questions in the Fujifilm community, is if Sigma (and other third party lens manufacturers), will at some point in time offer Fujifilm X mount lenses.

Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki touched this topic a couple of times, and here is what he said among the others:

So it seems Sigma passed the ball to Fujifilm. It’s up to Fujifilm to offer cooperation. But Fuji’s official response is:

  • read here – Fujifilm does not need to share X mount protocols with third-parties, since we offer already lots of glass

So, Fujifilm isn’t making things easier for Sigma, to offer X mount glass.

Now, in an interview published a couple of days ago, the Sigma CEO was asked the Fujifilm X mount lens question again. And his answer is as follows:

I am aware of this kind of demand from customers. One of our missions is to support as many systems as possible, so I’d like to support also Fujifilm X mount, but our engineering resources are limited, so we need to prioritize projects, depending on the demand from the customers. I’d like to make Fujifilm X mount lenses, but right now I have many other projects I need to prioritize.

It would be nice if Fujifilm would make life to Sigma easier, by sharing their protocols. But as the situation is now, I think we can put any dreams for Sigma X mount glass aside.

The only hope I see, is that Fujifilm hugely increases its market share (by at least 20% as we rumored here), and then Sigma might be motivated to go through the effort to reverse-engineer the lenses, just as Viltrox is doing with their X mount lenses.

Fujifilm X100V: Silver beats Black… and Which One do You Prefer?

 

This Sunday I would like to investigate a crucial question.

It’s probably the questions of all questions.

The Fujifilm X100V looks better in silver or black? ;)

I have a theory I will explain later… but first the rankings.

If we look at the BHphoto X100V page, we see they mark the X100V silver as “#1 seller“ and the X100V black as “top seller“.

But the ranking might be “drugged”, as the silver Fujifilm X100V will ship 1 month earlier than the black Fujifilm X100V. So people might have grabbed the silver one, to get it earlier.

And now my theory:

I find some Fujifilm cameras look better in silver, whereas others in black. I never knew why. But one day I got the illumination, and I found the answer.

Rangefinder styled Fujifilm cameras with optical viewfinder look better in silver (such as X100V), whereas Fujifilm cameras without optical viewfinder look better in black (such as X-E3).

Of course this is just my personal taste. But I noticed this pattern in my taste. Don’t know if it’s the same also for you.

With that said, frankly both colors look awesome on the Fujifilm X100V.

Fujifilm Removes Tatsuo Suzuki from X Photographer Program after his Controversial Street Photography Shooting Style in X100V Video

At the launch of the Fujifilm X100V, Fujifilm released lots of X100V promo videos, some of them made by their talented X photographers. One of those videos, though, raised a huge controversy, so much, that Fujifilm removed the video just a few hours after it went online.

However, here on FujiRumors, we shared a link where you can still find the video.

The video raised a massive debate, with currently over 730 comments in our original post. Is this a legit way to make street photography or is Tatsuo Suzuki’s style to intrusive and aggressive?

Over 4,000 people voted a survey on this subject, and you can see the results here. Spoiler: it’s an extremely divisive topic.

It’s not easy.

Even after 8 years of blogging and rumors, it’s not easy to keep up being able to share accurate information.

It’s always a puzzle. Every time.

But after the recent Fujifilm X Summit, where 100% of all our exclusive rumors have been confirmed, including the Fujifilm X-T4 announcement date, I really want to stop just a second the usual rumors and news flow, to express a MASSIVE thanks to everybody, who is helping me out with the rumors.

And it doesn’t matter if trusted, new or anonymous. This thank you goes to everybody, who ever shared correct information with FR.

In January also new sources (who use the rumor box), helped me out quite a bit. I can’t contact you back, but also to you, a big thanks.

You all sailed me with accuracy through the stormy rumor waters, helping me to find the right path in the thick rumor jungle.

Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0 Available by the End of 2020: Fastest Autofocus Lens in Production Bokeh Sample and New Product Images

One of the most anticipated lenses, coming for Fujifilm X mount, is surely the Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0.

At the recent Fujifilm X Summit, Fujifilm showed us a working sample including an autofocus demo at minute 43:07 in the live stream video, but that works with CDAF only. The final version will support PDAF.

But even with CDAF only, the live demo showed a rather confident focusing lens.

Fujifilm also showed a sample image of the bokeh, and you can find the screenshot of it down below.

They also disclosed some details:

  • XF 50mm f/1.0 is coming this year
  • more beautiful bokeh than the XF56mm f/1.2
  • XF50mm f/1.0 rear lenses work for autofocus
  • they show a protoype, which currently works only in contrast AF
  • 77 mm filter size

Also, the folks at digitalcameraworld had a post launch private meeting with Fujifilm, where they could handle the Fujinon XF50mm f/1.0, and they have been told:

The 50mm f/1.0 will not just one of the fastest lenses ever, but will be THE fastest autofocus lens in production. It will also share the record as the fastest autofocus lens ever with the legendary Canon EF 50mm f/1.0 L USM lens which was produced for film SLRs during the 1990s.

this innovative prime will be available to buy by then end of the year.

Also, dpreview says here:

  • weight under 1 kilo
  • minumum aperture f/16

So, we must arm ourselves with a little bit more of patience.
