Fujifilm X Camera Replacement Timeline from 2011 to 2018 and What This Could Mean for X-H2, X-T4, X-T30, X-Pro3, X-E4, X200

Fujifilm Timeline

Today I decided to take a look at the refresh rate of the top/mid range Fujifilm cameras and tried to make a guess (NOT A RUMOR) about when the Fujifilm X-H2, Fujifilm X-Pro3, Fujifilm X-E4, Fujifilm X-T4, Fujifilm X-T30 and Fujifilm X200 (or X100V) can be expected.

Overall we can see how the Fujifilm X-E and X-Pro line are gravitating towards a 4 years refresh time, whereas X-T and X100 line are close to a 2 years refresh time.

WARNING

  • This is not based on rumors, and it’s not said that Fujifilm will always keep the same product refresh rate. Everything can change anytime.
  • Don’t miss the upcoming rumors and join us on Facebook, RSS-feed, Instagram, Youtube and Twitter

NOT INCLUDED:

  1. All 2/3 sensor cameras are not included, since the won’t ever get any successor (not even 1 inch sensor cameras, no matter what old patents say)
  2. X70/XF10: XF10 is not the X70 successor. It’s unclear if there will be a Fujifilm X80 at some point
  3. X-A line has a high refresh rate, but the FR community is for the most part not interested in this camera line
  4. GFX 50S, GFX 100S, GFX 50R: According to our rumors, the GFX 100 comes 2 years and 3 months after the GFX 50S. It’s unclear if the Fuji GFX 50R will also get a 2 year refresh rate or a 4 year refresh rate like its rangefinder brothers the X-Pro and X-E

Fujifilm X-T3 Uses 26 Megapixel BSI Sony Sensor as Listed at Sony

Fujifilm X-T3 Sony Sensor

Recently a Fujifilm manager said here, that the sensor inside the Fujifilm X-T3 is not a Samsung sensor.

And yet, some people were still sceptical, especially considering that Sony does not offer any 26 megapixel BSI sensor.

Well, this argument seems to be gone now, since, as spotted by mirrorlessrumors, Sony updated its sensor page and we can now find the IMX571 26 megapixel BSI sensor listed on their website here.

Comparing it to the sensor of the upcoming Fujifilm GFX 100 (also listed at Sony) we can see both, the APS-C and MF sensor, have the same pixel size (3.76).

Keep in mind that Fujifilm officially said the GFX 100 will have 102 MP. This indicates that the GFX 100 has the same X-T3 sensor technology (except for X-Trans CFA), just about 4 times bigger.

We have already documented in this article, that sensor stitching happens already with the Fujifilm GFX 50S.

Fuji Guys Billy Hopes IBIS will be Implemented in Future Fujifilm GFX 50 version of GFX 100

Fujifilm GFX 50 IBIS

I was reading the first edition of the brand new Medium Format magazine, when I stumbled on this answer of Fuji Guy Billy.

QUESTION: Will this stabilization system eventually find its way to lower-priced medium format cameras or are you going to keep it for the top of the range for now?

ANSWER: It’s very early to talk about that. I think our official announcement of this 100-megapixel concept camera is sometime in the first half of next year. Of course, Fujifilm is always developing and researching how to include technologies such as in-body image stabilization to other line-ups. I hope that the technology will be implemented in the future when they introduce the GFX 50 megapixel version of the camera.”

If there ever will be a Fujifilm GFX 50 Megapixel camera with IBIS, Fuji’s medium format system would consist in:

And btw, I am really enjoying to go through the 140 pages of the medium format magazine, and I look forward to the next editions. Make sure to check it out at mediumformat.com. Lots of talented photographers sharing their thoughts and images there. It covers not only Fujifilm GFX, but also other medium format systems.

Fujifilm GFX 50S Upcoming Firmware Update Features Disclosed plus Fuji GFX 50R and GF Lens Details

Fujifilm GFX

Fujifilm is launching the Fujifilm GFX 50R and Fujifilm GFX 100 all over the world and today’s media slides come from China (via camerabeta). The launch event is covered in this article (translation).

The link has been sent to me by FR-reader Sam (instagram hermeneuticlens here).

For the most part they don’t unveil anything new, but there are some little new tidbits, translated for us by FR-reader Sam (thanks).

Fujifilm GFX 50R weight compared to GFX 50S:

  • by using a 2-way tilt screen instead of 3-way, Fujifilm reduces the weight by 35g
  • other 60g over the GFX 50S are saved with the EVF
  • 30g are saved by using lightweight material and optimizing thickness

GF Lenses

  • GF 100-200mm will work with 1.4x teleconverter (effectively 140-280mm)
  • GF 45-100mm not sure if it will work with 1.4x TC (slide does not mention that it will support TC, so it is likely that it won’t.)
  • GF 100-200mm will have internal zoom design (so lens’ length won’t change when zooming. Again, probably not the case for GF45-100mm)
  • GF 50mm F3.5 R will have linear motor

Fujifilm GFX 50S future firmware update:

Not everything is clear what’s written in the slides, but that’s what’s written

  • faster eye sensor reaction time
  • delete RAW and JPG together (that’s what’s written in the slide) – (by FR-readers: when choose to take jpeg+raw mode, so deleting photo will be in-sync)
  • 35mm format crop mode will support GF lenses and FUJINON HC lenses
  • The slide also says “EVF/LCD adds white indicator point(s) – color customization”. FR-readers say “Usually refer to exposure clipping of the white point, i.e. the white Blinky when everything look white, so the color customization mostly refer to the white Blinky color, like what u can set in Adobe Raw or LR”

Camera Remote App / Camera Update

As we reported here already, version 3.2.0 of the camera remote app allows you to update your camera firmware via remote app, provided your camera has bluetooth. The Fujifilm GFX 50R has bluetooth, so it supports this feature.
