First (Partial) Fujifilm X-M5 Image Shows it Comes with Front Command Dial and Compact Size

Fujifilm is now pushing their next X summit all over their social media.

And on one of them, they show what looks like a very small camera in a trouser pocket, accompanied by the word “mobility“.

This is very likely a teaser for the upcoming Fujifilm X-M5.

And while we don’t see much of the camera, we can notice one little detail: besides being very compact, the Fujifilm X-M5 will feature a front command dial, which was not available on its predecessor, the Fujifilm X-M1, nor in any of its X-A line siblings as far as I recall.

The Fujifilm X-M5 will be announced at the X Summit on October 14 at 9AM New York time… and it’s not the only thing we’ll get ;).

Also, Fujifilm China has displayed a teaser which you can see below and it has been shared by the Chinese Weibo account 独立摄影师联合会 here.

Fujifilm Leaks What’s Coming September 12 (GFX100 II, Tilt Shift)

Fujifilm has just put their countdown for the X summit on September 12 on their YouTube page.

Of course the video can’t yet be watched (will start Sept. 12 at 5AM New York time).

But here is the thing.

As soon as the video was up, I extracted the tags of the video and saw that the full tag-list included terms like “GFX100 II”, “tilt shift” and more (see screenshot above). I tried again now, and the tags that unveil what’s coming are no longer there.

So luckily I was fast enough to grab them for you. ;)

Now let’s go over them.

Let’s start with the tags that 100% tell us what’s coming September 12.

  • Fujifilm GFX100 II
  • Tilt Shift

According to my knowledge, also the Fujinon GF55mm f/1.7 should come on September 12.

Looking at the other tags gives us a sense on what the main focus of the event will be:

  • photography
  • cinema
  • movie recording

It’s interesting to see so much emphasis on the video side of things. And we already told you that the GFX100 II will bring several new features, such as Video touch-to-track AutofocusWaveforms Monitor and Anamorphic Mode.

A tag that gives X series users hopes:

  • X Series

Now, there are no specific tags for Fujifilm X-Pro4, X-E5, X-S30, X-T6, X-T40, X-H3, X-H3S, X80, X100VI (X200) or whatever. So little hopes for any X series camera to come, otherwise they would have tagged it just like they tagged the GFX100 II.

But I’d already be very happy if behind that “X series” and “fujinon” would hide for example the unveil of a new X series lens roadmap, which is long overdue.

Anyway, overall a very GFX-centric event, with hope for X series tidbits too.

LEAKED: This is the New Sensor of the Fujifilm GFX100 Successor

Finally we can share the final detail about the Fujifilm GFX100 successor sensor.

According to trusted sources, the Fujifilm GFX100 successor will sport a new 100 megapixel sensor based on the sensor architecture of the Sony A6700 and Sony FX30.

So still 100 megapixel BSI (not stacked), but optimized for faster sensor readout compared to the current 100MP sensor in use on the GFX100/S as well as in its APS-C format on the Fujifilm X-T3, X-T4, X-S20 etc.

We will have to see what benefit this sensor brings in real life, but on paper (and from what we can see on the Sony A6700), the faster sensor readout leads to less rolling shutter especially in video, allows for faster processing of files and potentially just speeds up the camera overall in terms of autofocus, EVF blackout and more.

The perfect solution to speed up the GFX system without going the super expensive stacked sensor route.
