Organic Sensor to be Used in This Panasonic Camcorder in Early 2019

Organic Sensor

L-rumors.com just shared the image of the first Panasonic 8K camcorder featuring an organic sensor and they also shared some specs:

  • Camcorder coming in late 2019, as Panasonic officially said here
  • Global Shutter (exposes all pixels at the same time and read the data all at once). This will at last kill the distortion caused by rolling shutters.
  • 88 at 60fps
  • Panasonic said the sensor has “high sensitivity” and “wide dynamic range” but did not share exact numbers
  • It has a step less electronic ND filter (Panasonic said it does NOT chabge color balance when using it)
  • Sensor can switch between “high-sensitivity” mode and “high-saturation” mode

I remind you that just recently here, Panasonic said that the development of the organic sensor with Fujifilm continues. This could be the first application in a digital camera for this sensor.

In December 2014 our sources told us here, that there is a crucial problem to be solved with the organic sensor: heat generation (and battery drain).

The Fujifilm/Panasonic organic sensor cooperation itself was officially announced back in June 2013 here.

Let’s hope this good thing will finally be mirrorless camera fit. Sony needs some competition in the sensor business ;).

Photokina 2019 Cancelled: Coming Back in May 2020 and Looking Back at Photokina 2018 with Fujifilm X Photographers Live Stages

Photokina 2019 2020

Kölnmesse has just issued an official press release (PDF here), that Photokina 2019 in May has been cancelled and will come back in May 2020.

It’s pretty sad, but it’ true: Photokina 2018 in September was the last of its kind.

Even US Fujifilm manager Steve said that from now on, Photokina will become more of a smaller regional show. And while in the past Fujifilm (and other companies) organized big launches in proximity to Photokina, it won’t be like this anymore in future.

I personally attended two photokina shows (2016 report here2018 report here). It was fantastic, because of the sheer magnitude of the event. Everybody with rank and name was there, and all the latest and greatest gear was launched at photokina. This magnitude will inevitably go lost now.

I don’t think it will be worth for me anymore to travel through half of Europe for a smaller regional show, so that was it. No more Photokina for me.

And to remind us of the good old days, I share the Fujifilm X Photographers Photokina 2018 live stages, which I was lucky to enjoy personally.

Fringer EF/FX Smart Adapters Firmware ver 2.60 Support for Sigma Lenses on Fujifilm X Cameras Added and Improved

Fringer just released Fringer EF-FX Pro and EF-FX adapters’ new firmware ver. 2.60.

It mainly addresses the following issues.

Version 2.60

  1. Fixed PDAF issues for some of the following lens models: Lens didn’t get recognized by the adapter after upgrading lens firmware to version 2.0.
    – Sigma 150-600/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports/Contemporary
  2. Bug fixed: Some telephoto lenses, e.g. EF200/2.8L II, don’t work properly with 2X TC. When setting shutter speed to ‘A’, LCD or viewfinder is always too dark or too bright, so that it’s hard to see the object being shot.
  3. Added following lenses to the tested and optimized lens list:
    Sigma 105/1.4 DG HSM Art
Sigma 120-300/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports
Sigma 120-300/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports + 1.4X
Sigma 120-300/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports + 2X
Sigma 18-200/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM Contemporary
Sigma 17-70/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Contemporary
    EF 135/2L + 1.4X
    EF 135/2L + 2X

Be noted: Before upgrading to V2.60, make sure current firmware version is V2.x. If it’s V1.x, please upgrade to V2.10 first.

Please visit Fringer’s website to download the firmware file and release notes.

Fringer Black Friday sale ends in two days.
