RUMOR: Fujinon XF18-120mm f/4 Announcement on May 31

Not everything that Fujifilm has officially teased or we have rumored here on FujiRumors will come during the X summit on May.

We certainly will not get the full announcement of the Fujifilm X-H2 high resolution or the Fujinon XF56mm f/1.2 MKII.

But today we can add one item to the list of gear that will come: the Fujinon XF 18-120mm f/4!

So, at the time of this post, the gear that we know will certainly be announced on May 31 is:

Fujifilm X Summit on May 31: Fuji’s official teaser does not display the X-H2S, but FR added it because we are sure it will come

For FujiRumors readers this does not come surprising, as we told you already on April 15 that Fujifilm will have an X summit on May 31.

Well, now Fujifilm has made it official and unveiled to the world that the Fujifilm X Summit will be held on May 31 at:

  • 9AM New York Time
  • 3PM Berlin Time

No further details, but thanks to FujiRumors we have a list of gear Fujifilm plans to launch in 2022.

What will surely come is the Fujifilm X-H2S, and very likely also the Fujinon XF150-600mmF5.6-8, as this is just the perfect companion for the ultra fast 26MP stacked sensor Fujifilm X-H2S.

What will NOT be fully announced are the high resolution Fujifilm X-H2 (it will come later), the XF56mmF1.2II and maybe also other gear in the list below.

And of course, X summits often include some surprises that have never been rumored before, and Fujifilm also likes to show mock-ups of upcoming gear on such events.

So definitely stay tuned on FujiRumors, where we will have a massive live blog with LIVE STREAM INCLUDED!

Fujinon GF20-35mm f/4 Constant Aperture (According to Fujifilm’s Own Mock-up)

Back in September 2021 Fujifilm held a very interesting X summit, where they also displayed a couple of mock-ups of future lenses.

One of the mock-ups displayed was the Fujinon GF20-35mm lens (which we find also on the G mount roadmap).

Well, one detail about the GF20-35mm passed unnoticed until today.

In fact, after FR-reader Lars contacted me asking about more details about the GF20-35mm lens, I went back to the mock-ups and gave them another look.

To my surprise, I noticed a detail that during the hasty hours of the mega-launch-summit back in September I missed (and apparently nobody else noticed it either): if you look closely, blurred but still recognizable, you can see “1:4” printed next to “GF20-35mm” (see image above).

This means that, at least at the time of the X summit on September 2021, Fujifilm did plan it as a constant f/4 zoom, hence Fujifilm Fujinon GF20-35mm f/4 R WR.

So there was a change over the internal roadmap we leaked back in 2017, where it was displayed as Fujinon GF20-36mm f/3.5-4.5.

If Fujifilm sticks by that, then it would bring the Fujinon GF20-35mmF4 in line with other top tier GF zooms such as the Fujinon GF32-64mmF4 and the GF45-100mmF4.
