TESTED: New Fujifilm X-T4 and GFX100 Firmware Brings Smoother Exposure Changes in Video, Except…

Earlier today Fujifilm released Fujifilm X-T4 firmware 1.03 and Fujifilm GFX100 firmware 2.01.

Of course FujiRumors reported instantly about it here, but now I have something more to add.

Despite being on a two week holiday with my wife in wonderful South Italy (see my Instagram), I was too curious to find out what the improvement was, and I made quick testings.

Here is what I found out.

According to quick tests I made on my Fujifilm X-T4, I can say that the exposure change is now smoother (not stepping like before), except in high speed modes (like 120 or 240 fps).

This is a major annoyance people had when shooting video, and I wonder why Fujifilm does not specify that in their official Fujifilm X-T4 and GFX100 firmware release notes, but hides it behind a vague “fix of a minor bug during a movie shooting“. It’s not a minor but, it’s a major one!

Happy to see it work smoother now! UPDATE: FR-readers confirm in the comments it is much smoother now, but not yet perfect.

P.S.: I am sorry if I am not able to edit the footage and upload on youtube… right now this post is written on a sandy beach… so… just trust me, OK? Done that, let me finish my beer and then jump into the water… and when I come back, I hope to read lots of happy comments ;).

Fujifilm X Lab Episode 2: The ACROS Magic, Fuji X-T3 Autofocus Regrets, Kaizen Updates and Looking Forward to X Series Future

Fujifilm just published the second episode of their X Lab series (you can see the first one here).

It’s again in Japanese, and google translate struggles, with cryptic translations.

Luckily also this time a fellow Japanese speaking FR-reader translated it for us (thanks!).

Astrophotography with Fujifilm: Get Stellar Results with Fujifilm APS-C and Medium Format Cameras

I have received an email from a fellow member of our Fujifilm Astrophography facebook group, which said:

I was thinking you could perhaps share some of the pics taken on the FB group “Astrophotography with Fujifilm” that you manage. Lots of awesome pictures there! We often hear you need an expensive full frame camera or big telescope, but that’s just wrong, as this group suggests.

That would be great to attract more Fuji shooters to this group, it’s a very nice community where we help each other and learn from our experiences.

Astro can be daunting for the newbie, but it shouldn’t. Also, there aren’t a lot of Fuji shooters in the astro community, so I’m sure it could spread the virus — the good one!

Oh well, here it is.

Have fun and may this post inspire you to try your luck with the stars, too :).

Fujifilm Spirit Level Patent for Fujifilm GFX100 and other Top LCD cameras such as Fujifilm X-H1 and X-H2?

As we reported already in the past, Fujifilm is very active when it comes to patents about new ergonomic solutions:

The one below is just another one of those :).

It clearly shows a Fujfiilm GFX100, hence it might eventually find its way into the Fujifilm GFX100 via firmware update and to other cameras with top LCD, such as the Fujifilm X-H1 and Fujifilm X-H2.

Here is the description of the patent by the Japanese site dclife (google translated):

The design for displaying the electronic level on the Fujifilm camera top sub-monitor has been registered with the Japan Patent Office. I don’t follow patent related information very much in life, but I was interested in it personally, so I would like to pick it up. FUJIFILM will apply for the design on May 22, 2019, and will be the design registration 1657892 issued on April 1, 2020.

Taking “GFX100” as an example, the top sub-monitor of “GFX100” supports INFO display, dial display, and histogram. Perhaps future products may support the electronic level display. I am also worried about the contents that can be supported by firmware update.

Personally, I use the sub-monitor on the top only for tripod shooting and night shooting, but I think it would be useful to increase the user’s usage by switching the display. Perhaps it may come in handy when shooting on a tripod or low angle.
